PHILIPPINES - AZORES LIVE ABOARD

2022-04

I spent a week on the Atlantis Azores Liveaboard. Then I flew home.

Here is what I wrote in FecesBook about the travel home:

Left Manila, Philippines 9.45 PM TODAY. Got to my Los Angeles Hotel today at 9.45 PM TODAY. Such is the magic of time zones. No transporter yet. Beam me up Scotty.

Just had breakfast 3 hours ago on plane, now its closing time at the bar.

I Left the boat in puerto princessa, Philippines at 7 am Saturday (6 pm Friday Boston time), 30 hours traveling so far. Still have to fly to Boston tomorrow. I get in at night. Then back to the United States, as LA and Boston are not really the US.

EDIT: In the end, it took me 54 Hours to travel from the boat to home.

WHALE SHARK

My first Whale Shark while diving. Watch the guy with the white fins, that's our dive guide trying to stay out of the way.

BABY SHARK

I apologize in advance to anyone that has small children, as I understand there will now be a song stuck in your head.

BABY SHARK da da dot dit dot di dat dat.

There were huge schools of baby shark all around, with a few pregnant ones as well. The baby shark were around 3 feet long, some even smaller. Cute little things I got a bunch of videos, here are a few of them.

BUMP HEADS

Bump heads. For the sound they make when they bump their heads. Sounds like an explosion.

TINY RAY

This would be some kind of ray, not sure if a stingray or what. Don't usually see them this small near the reef. Usually out in the open ocean. You can see these sometimes during a black water dive.

MANTA RAY

There used to be a ton of manta rays here, but during covid, Chinese ships came in and illegally harvested ship loads of them. Now there are only a few. This one was huge.

SWEET LIPS

I love these guys. It just seems that there should be some blues music playing while these guys are swimming around.

SNEAKY BASTARD

Sneaky bastard. This one cut the head of this diver. It was a small cut, but you got to watch out for the triggerfish that are nesting.

KEEP AWAY

Fish playing keep away from the bigger fish.

BUNCH OF BARRACUDA

Just a few barracuda. They school like this, because the dog toothed tuna chase them.

GIANT CLAMS

These clams are Giant, and very old. Some dipshit snorkelers think it is cool to dive down and punch inside them, and pull their arm out before it closes. This is not good for the clam. Not sure if anyone ever gets caught by the clam, but I don't think I would have much sympathy for the idiot.
